The Lunula Laser – For Treatment in Fungal Nail Infections

Onychomycosis or Fungal Nail infection, as it is more commonly known, is one of the most common conditions that we see in our clinics.  Therefore, we are delighted to announce that we have invested heavily, in a state of the art laser machine “ The Lunula Laser ” to treat this stubborn infection.

The Lunula Laser

The Lunula Laser

The Lunula Laser is a cold laser that works by penetrating the nail and killing the fungal infection beneath the surface of the nail.  As the laser is a cold laser it also helps your body to produce chemicals that kill the infection from the inside.  The treatment causes no pain or discomfort to the client and has no nasty side effects.

Treating the Fungal Nail Infection

It is important to note that there is no rapid or overnight cures for this type of infection.  It takes time for the new nail to grow out.  Successful treatment will require some lifestyle changes, such as ensuring all footwear is treated with anti-fungal spray regularly.  Fungal infections thrive in moist, warm & dark places which make our feet the ideal host for fungi to grow.

In the past, taking anti-fungal tablets orally has been the most common and effective way to manage or cure a fungal nail infection.  These tablets come with a long list of possible side effects, such as kidney problems or baldness.   Up to now, a large amount of people decided to live with the unsightly infection rather than treat it, because of the risks involved.

Thanks to advanced technology in laser systems people do not have to fear the life changing side effects of treatment.  Nor must they live with the burden of unsightly toe nails.  The Lunula Laser is the newest technology and we now offer this unique treatment in our Grafton st clinic.

What to expect

The treatment is spread out weekly over a 4/5 week period.  At your first appointment you will meet with our podiatrist who will assess the severity of the infection.  He/she will go through, in detail, your care between treatments and will answer any questions or concerns that you might have.   Following your consultation, your nail will be prepared for treatment.  You can begin the treatment on the same day if you wish.  All your treatments will be carried out by one of our fully qualified podiatrists and you can rest assured that your feet are in good hands.
